About the work

This limited edition by Peter Abrahams is part of a wider enquiry into overlooked matter. These images fit within the early modern genre of still life where the visual treatment can lend permanence to the most disposable substances and lend pristine newness to the most obsolete or worn-out materials. Major ongoing bodies of photographic work include The Active And Contemplative Life (2003 - ongoing), a series of diptychs which examine hierarchies of value and overlooked urban spaces, and Illuminations and Vanitas (both 2006 - ongoing), large-format sequences of still lifes which investigate materials and their worth.
